Maria is a young female that was picked up as a stray in Hanover Co., VA. She is estimated to be between 1-2 years of age. She was rescued by CCDAL the week of Christmas and has been in a foster home since then. Maria tested positive for heartworms and will have her third and final heartworm treatment on Feb. 28th. Maria is petite, weighing only 39 pounds. She appears to have been abused because it took her about 48 hours to trust her foster mom.

Now, Maria has come out of her shell and it is obvious that she is an extremely sweet gal. Maria has been with other dogs, birds, and very young children in her foster home. The foster home does not have cats, so we don't know about her and cats. She is extremely gentle, has a soft mouth, and is very easy to handle.

Even though, CCDAL believes she did not live in a house, this little gal is so appreciative, that she has never had an accident in the foster home, never destroyed anything, and has taken to crate-training like a natural. Maria is up to date on her shots, and the vets anticipate a complete recovery from the heartworm situation. Maria is so gentle that she has never once jumped up on anyone, even if they had a cookie. The foster home says she looks like a Seal pup!
