Can't foster a dog but would like to help us help a dog like Murphy?

We have had many people ask how they can help a dog. The best way to help is by fostering or adopting a homeless Dal; however, many folks who want to help are not in a position that allows them to foster or adopt, so we have created another way: You can sponsor a Dal with "special needs."

Those special needs may be temporary (such as for antibiotics, surgery, or heartworm treatment) to get a dog healthy so it can be adopted. Or, they may last for the remainder of a dog's life...a dog we know will be cared for and loved in their foster home (like the older, diabetic, blind girl) because they will not be adopted. Whichever dog you choose to help, we will be happy to give you an estimate of the costs involved and discuss your options. If you decide to "virtually adopt" a dog (paying the expenses for the dog while they continue to be cared for by the foster family), we will list you as the "Angel" on that dog's page, send you pictures and updates on the dog's status, and put you in touch with the foster home. We can also help you with a plan where you are not obligated to donate toward the dog's care in any specific amount or for any specific length of time. You can make a one-time donation, a regularly scheduled (i.e., monthly) donation, or you can pledge to reimburse CCDAL for a specific dog's medical expenses.

It could be a dog coming out of a shelter into foster care that needs surgery.

It might be a dog that needs special medications or an expensive prescription diet.

It might be one that has to be in short-term boarding until a place opens in a foster home.

It might be one that must spend some time in an animal hospital until it is well enough to go to a foster home.

It might be a dog that is heartworm positive and requires treatment.

It might be a senior citizen Dal with only a short time remaining before the pain gets too bad and he or she will need to be humanely euthanized.

All of these are expenses over and above the "usual" vetting and fostering costs that we incur.

There are always more Dalmatians than we can help with our limited foster homes and limited funds. Those Dals that need expensive treatment beyond our means (for example, dogs that require treatment for heartworms or orthopedic surgery) may not be saved without your generous help.

With your help, we could save many of these deserving dogs. It might be a one-time payment for treatment, or a monthly check for special food or medication, or a pledge to cover boarding expenses until a foster can be found that would allow CCDAL to give these dogs the chance to find their Forever Homes.

If you sponsor one of these Dals, we will keep you informed on his or her progress. With your permission, we will list you as the sponsor on the dog's web page. To become a sponsor, contact Jackie Threatte at ccdal@comcast.net for information on the current dogs with special needs and to select the dog you would like to help.

All donations are fully tax-deductible and a letter
or receipt will be provided for federal tax deduction purposes.
